PSHE and RSE
Leader of PSHE and RSE Miss Jenkins
At Balby Central Primary Academy we grow into well-rounded learners, ready for life.
At Balby Central Primary Academy, we teach Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) as a whole-school approach to underpin children’s development, as people, and because we believe that this also supports their learning capacity. Designed as a whole school approach, Jigsaw PSHE connects the pieces of Personal, Social and Health Education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development.
We teach using the scheme from Jigsaw, which covers all areas of PSHE for the primary phase including statutory Relationships and Health Education.
PSHE Intent Statement
Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
We teach Relationships and Sex Education through the use of the Jigsaw scheme. We complete regular audits of the content to ensure we are compliant with the statutory guidance, introduced in September 2020. We also enhance this curriculum provision by involving other companies and organisations: such as school nursing and St Johns Ambulance for the teaching of puberty and first aid.
Before the introduction of the new statutory curriculum for RSE, we completed a consultation with parents in the Summer Term 2020. The results and actions of this period of consultation can be found at the bottom of the page.

What we teach in PSHE?
The table below gives the learning theme of each of the six Puzzles (units) and these are taught across the school; the learning deepens and broadens every year. Should you wish to know more information, please speak to your child's class teacher.
