RSE and Mental Health
At Balby Central Primary Academ, we ensure that the Mental Health and Well-being of our pupils is paramount. We have recently been accredited with Bronze status from Leeds Beckett University and we are currently working towards the next stage of the award and striving towards Gold. As a school, we have a Mental Health lead as well as a Mental Health First Aider. We were also accredited our Enhanced Award for Healthy Learning, Healthy Lives through Doncaster Public Health in the Summer Term 2020.
We use Thrive to further support our pupils with social, emotional and mental health needs. We have 2 accreditated Thirve practitioners in school. These sessions can be a mix of 1:1 and small groups.
We have a play therapist (FORTIS) who works in school two days a week offering a further layer of bespoke support to meet individual needs. Alongside this provsion we have a Mental Health Mentor - Evolve- who works in Key Stage 2 supporting children with their social, emotional and mental health needs. This member offers a bespoke programme.
If you need any further support, please contact Miss Talbot (Mental Health Lead) or Mrs Parkin (Inclusion Lead)

We teach Relationships and Sex Education through the use of the Jigsaw scheme. We complete regular audits of the content to ensure we are compliant with the statutory guidance introduced in September 2020. We also enhance this curriculum provison by involving other companies and organisations: such as school nursing and St Johns Ambulance for the teaching of puberty and first aid.
Before the introduction of the new statutory curriculum for RSE, we completed a consultation with parents in the Summer Term 2020. The results and actions of this period of consultation can be found at the bottom of the page.
