All of our governor blogs
Date: 16th Dec 2020 @ 2:33pm
I write this blog post as we approach the end of the first school term.
The governing board has continued to meet, mostly remotely, this term. We have held meetings with staff on priority areas and held our formal Local Governing Board (LGB) on 30th November. We have focused our attention this term on developing school strategies, reviewing safeguarding procedures, providing challenge to ensure high quality provision of learning, both in school and remote, and reviewing risk assessments for the safe and continued opening of school. We’re delighted to have welcomed three new governors to our board this term, who bring diverse skills and experience to benefit BCPA. You will be able to see updated details of all members of the board in the Local Governing Body section.
Whilst there have been hundreds of pages of guidance to guide schools through this period, there is no perfect way to do things. The governing board has been particularly impressed with the quick judgements made by school leaders to keep children, families and staff safe and the commitment of all in our school community to making improvements and acting on feedback. Whilst there have been some significant hurdles this term when bubbles have had to isolate, there have been highlights too – we have welcomed new staff to the Balby team, attendance and behaviour has been solid this term, the class blogs showcase the learning that has progressed in all year groups and amidst the challenges - we have found new and better ways of adjusting to a Covid world. All children will participate in festive activities this week too.
Thank you to all in our school community (parents, carers, children, staff) for your willingness to try new ways of doing things, your commitment to keeping our children safe and accessing the education they deserve and the compromises you have made.
Very best wishes to you for Christmas and the New Year,
Chair of Governors
