2026 - 2027 Junior Civic Mayor

Meet Janelle!

We are incredibly proud to share Janelle has been chosen to represent all children in Doncaster as Junior Civic Mayor. Janelle applied to be a Primary Ambassador and the judges were so impressed with Janelle's application to be a Primary Ambassador that she has been been selected as the new Junior Civic Mayor. At her robing ceremony in September, Janelle made a speech to the room in the Mansion House, sharing what she wanted to achieve in the coming year and what she was excited about doing. We will share Janelle's journey throughout the year as a Junior Civic Mayor to find out how she has worked with Primary Ambassadors and others in the community to represent the children of Doncaster.

Janelle's speech

'Thank you to all of you for choosing me to be the Junior Civic Mayor and thank you to Councillor Jackie Dudley, I am so excited and honoured to be chosen as this year's Junior Civic Mayor of Doncaster 2026-27. In the role I hope to use my elected voice to help develop campaigns and resources like posters and to do school talks to inspire other children. My ambition is to make Doncaster a cleaner, greener and safer place for animals.

I will put all my effort into the role, using my creativity and friendly spirit to help others, always being ready to listen and share ideas.

I would also like to tell you some fun facts about me! I love gymnastics and go to gymnastics club every week. I enjoy practising my moves wherever I go! I also love drawing and sketching, using my imagination to create lots of fun and exciting ideas. Another thing I enjoy is playing the piano, which I find really fun. As I mentioned in my application video, my superpower would be to heal things. I would use it to help people who are poorly, but also to help animals, wildlife and nature. I'd love to make the world a healthier and happier place for everyone. Using my personality and skills, support from Georgia, Abigail and the Primary Ambassadors, I hope to embrace the Junior Civic Mayor role to make Doncaster and beyond a better place for children and young people. Seeing that I am the new Junior Civic Mayor, I will help as much as I can, make friends and have an amazing year.'

What is a Primary Ambassador?

Primary Ambassadors of Doncaster play an important role in representing the children of Doncaster. Each year children can apply for these positions by applying to the City of Doncaster Council by sending in a video about themselves. Twenty children are chosen to serve as role models and to champion children's voices across Doncaster in their weekly meetings, by attending high profile events and working on campaigns.

This role is very important as a representative of their peers, Primary Ambassadors help support the vision for Doncaster to be the most child friendly city in the country. Young people are at the heart of making decisions, shaping the future of Doncaster and supporting their communities.

Thanraj was excited to be chosen as a Primary Ambassador. His application video captured the judging panel and we look forward to hearing more about the projects this year

Meet Alice!

Alice was chosen to be a Primary Ambassador and loved her year representing children in Doncaster.

Their focus was kindness and an anti-bullying campaign to design postcards and share messages. Alice was sad to finish her role is looking forward to applying to be part of Doncaster Youth Council when she is in Year 7.

2024 - 2025 Doncaster Primary Ambassador

Meet Umaiza!

Umaiza was our first representative as a Doncaster Primary Ambassador. As a team they worked hard to develop a wildlife space in Bentley Doncaster. Their hard work paid off with the team winning a Wildlife Gardening Gold Award.

As a Primary Ambassador Umaiza was able to use her leadership skills to work with others, present to an audience and develop ideas that have made a difference.
